Ask The Batemaster: Morning Wood Explained

Morning Wood - The Bator Blog

Explain morning wood, please!

Do you ever wake up with a hard-on? A full on raging boner in the sheets? You might know of it as “morning wood” and The Batemaster is here to explain what and how this even happens.

QUESTION:

I’m in my 40s and still wake up every morning with a raging boner. Of course, I always have a great stroke session first thing! But now I wonder, Bruce, what is the reason for morning wood?

RESPONSE:

Sometimes I mention that one major reason for the fact that many men—especially when they are younger, meaning teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s—often wake up in the morning with an erection is because during the early hours between 3 AM and daybreak your testosterone cycle usually reaches its peak.

However, this is only one factor for what is sometimes called (more formally!) “nocturnal penile tumescence.” Yes, your male hormonal cycle, a collaboration between specific brain centers, the adrenal glands atop your kidneys, and your testicles, tends to peak sometime after midnight each night. This cycle, which includes testosterone, a primary male hormone, tends to reach its highest point just after you awaken from REM sleep, and this in itself may produce a nice erection.

However, there are other factors involved, such as the possibility of having erotic dreams, even if you don’t specifically recall them. Further, you may experience some kind of physical stimulation of your body or genitals by yourself, or in relation to a bedmate—if you have one.

As I often mention, the two parts of your autonomic nervous system—actual wiring within your body—are also involved. While you are awake and thinking of things that may concern or stress you, the “fight/flight,” alert-to-danger part of the autonomic system is often active enough to inhibit erections. But as is true during relaxed masturbation, during sleep you may experience more influence from the part of that system called the “relaxation response,” associated with erection.

In fact, you may experience several erections during the night, and sometimes they last quite a long time. This can happen to you at any age, though for many men it grows less common in the 60s, 70s and 80s, it may still occur and ought to be enjoyed at any age. Many men report there is some very special quality to the pleasure of stroking their early erection after first waking up.

Regardless of your age, it’s especially delicious to take advantage of Morning Wood and enjoy some intense masturbation, if possible.

There’s actually no better way to start your day!

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.

  1. Ah, it’s those testosterone levels we have to thank. I’ve never been a morning wood’r but… I do get the morning hornys, soon as I awake I’m thinking about doing IT. I really don’t recall waking up with boners.

  2. I always wake up with a raging hard on. Always have. It can be embarrassing at times like when I would stay over at a buddies and when we wake up I’m the one whose cock is rock hard and visibly noticeable. Or I’ve been at my cousins house where my aunt and uncle would be and I’m come out with a boner. Everyone knew this about me so I got over the embarrassment and just went with it. Is it ok that everyone pretty much has seen my morning boner? I usually just go take a shower and jerk off so it will go away
